If you dye your hair, you may reach a point where you feel a little self-conscious about your eyelashes being a different color than your locks. For instance, it's a bit silly to walk around with red hair and brown eyelashes! If you do feel this way, then you can have a service known as eyelash tinting performed at your local salon. This may sound a little scary at first since most people don't like others touching their eyes, but if you learn a little more about it, you'll realize it's not really that bad! 1. What do stylists use to tint your eyelashes?

People often assume the formula used to tint their eyelashes is the same as that used to tint their hair. This is not exactly true. Similar pigments are used, but they are contained within a gentler matrix. While you still don't want to get the chemicals in your eyes, the vapors are far less irritating than those released by more hair dye. The formula is also more concentrated with pigment, which means the dye does not have to stay in contact with your lashes for as long. Most stylists will leave it on for 10 minutes, whereas it may take 30 or 40 minutes to dye a full head of hair.

2. How are your eyes protected?

If you're worried about getting dye in your eyes, don't be. Your stylist will take several steps to help ensure this does not happen. They'll have you close your eyes, and then they will put little wax paper shields over your eyes, but under the lashes. This way, when they brush the dye on your lashes, it won't get on your eyes or eyelids. You have to then keep your eyes shut for 10 minutes until they rinse off the dye. This isn't hard; just rest and relax!

3. How long does eyelash tinting last?

The results can last for up to 6 weeks as long as you care for your eyelashes properly. You'll need to make sure you use a mild facial cleanser and avoid rubbing it too vigorously on your eyes. Minimize your use of mascara, as it can take the dye off with it when you remove it.
